Dress Code

BARTOW HIGH/SUMMERLIN ACADEMY/IB

   2017-2018 DRESS CODE POLICY 

 The Bartow High School/IB dress code has been established to help students demonstrate consideration and respect for themselves and others, as well as develop employability and life skills. This dress code will be enforced in compliance with the Polk County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.

Identification Badges:

School Issued identification badges (ID badges).

ID badges will be issued at the beginning of the school year for free. If lost, a badge must be purchased for $5 each additional ID. If student is unable to pay the $5 for an additional ID, the fee for the ID will be placed on obligation.

Academy Dress:

Please refer to individual academy dress guidelines specific to your designated academy of choice.

Shirts:

Bartow High School/IB/Summerlin t-shirts are available for purchase at the BHS front office.

All shirts must be worn as intended, not tied up, torn, or altered in any way. All shirts must provide appropriate coverage: shoulders, stomachs, backs, undergarments and chest area must be covered.

Sheer clothing (see-through), sleeveless and midriff shirts/blouses are not permitted.

Bottoms:

All bottoms must be worn appropriately at the waist at all times, and does not expose skin.

Pajamas are not permitted.

All skirts, dresses, and shorts must be knee length or below.

Hats and Head Coverings:

Hats and/or the hat part of hoodies are not to be worn indoors.

Bandanas are not permitted.

Exceptions will be made for a medical need or religious preference as appropriate.

(Preapproved by an administrator).

Other Information:

JROTC, athletics, and other student activities may wear their approved team/group uniform—(pre-approved by administration) on designated days.

Slippers, blankets, clothing associated with profanity, gangs, drugs, sex, alcohol, tobacco products, and violence or those which support discrimination on the basis of age, color, handicap, national origin, marital status, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation are not permitted. All other Polk County Student Code of Conduct dress code guidelines apply.

Violations:

Failure to meet dress code will result in a telephone call to a parent/guardian to provide appropriate clothing and/or further disciplinary actions will be applied.

Multiple violations will result in further disciplinary action for disruptive behavior following the progressive discipline outlined in the Polk County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.
